Interview with Travelgirlandherdog (@travelgirlandherdog)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

During the pandemic, I couldn’t travel during the summer. I have off during the summer months because I am also a special education teacher. I had some time on my hands with staying home and love exploring new places or revisiting some of my favorite places. I figured that I would start posting favorite travel pictures and stories. In addition, I have an adorable Yorkiepoo, named Molly, that I love to share pictures of with followers and that is how Travel Girl and Her Dog was born!

Can you share the most interest in exciting happened to you since you started doing this?

First, I love connecting with fellow travel and pet lovers. I enjoy hearing their stories and experiences and even learning tips from them. I do get a lot of questions about my dog Molly and if I take her on international trips. Here’s the secret though, Molly doesn’t really like traveling. She often gets anxious in the car. Occasionally I will take her on shorter overnight trips, however I usually have a dog sitter. Followers often think my Instagram handle is because I travel with Molly. Nope, I just enjoy traveling and also sharing photos of her.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them thrive and not “burn out”?

“Pace yourself with posts. You don’t need to post everyday. You can create a content calendar to schedule your posts. Also, mix up posts with reels and stories. I content calendar really is useful for how to plan content and show your audience what pillars to focus on.

It is also helpful to provide content that serves your followers. For example, “How to travel and what to pack”, “Helpful tips for traveling internationally”, “The top 5 things I learned about… (whatever your content is about”. “What happens when I’m not traveling?

Engagement with your followers is important too, but plan a specific day or two during the week to respond to comments and questions.”

None of us can succeed without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

“Yes, I invested a little bit I to hiring a Social Media Marketer/Consultant when I felt stuck with where I wanted to go next and how to continue to grow my audience and make sure my content is relevant and interesting.

Do your homework though. There are a lot of people out there that advertise as a Social Media Marketer, but look at neutral reviews, what they have to offer, costs of doing business with the person or company, and read carefully if any contracts need to be signed, and ask questions!! Don’t assume it will be included or that they understand your vision. Be specific as possible.”

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

As I continue to grow my followers and audience, I hope to bring and share useful information that will help anyone who enjoys traveling or is a pet lover. I don’t mind sharing my mistakes of what went wrong on a trip or how I would do something differently. If I am earn any type of monetary compensation, I definitely like to give back to animal shelters or food banks to help others in my local community.

Do you have a favorite “written Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

““Keep going and you will be fine. Beautiful things will happen in time”

When first starting out on Instagram, I made some errors and mistakes. I fell for some of the scams promising followers or engagements. In reality, it is hard work to grow and find your niche with an audience. However, I didn’t give up. I kept going and leaned from my mistakes. I’m proud of my success so far and look forward to what the future holds.”
