Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
“I have always loved dancing when I was young. I used to sneak out of my house at night in high school to go dancing in hip hop clubs in Philly. I took a pause in dancing for many years of my life however- after college to pursue deepening my spiritual practices through yoga and meditation. Later facilitated yoga teacher training and then eventually opened a meditation retreat center in Bali Indonesia.
When I moved to LA a few years back I tried to transition my business to fit the LA scene but it failed miserably. I went through a dark night of the soul with no work coming in and even restaurant jobs not hiring me. I had no idea where the next paycheck was going to come from, or what direction I should take my life. I had always devoted so deeply to my meditation and yoga practices but had no interest in them anymore. So I began to move. I began to move in organic and new ways I’ve never done before. I closed my eyes and let the movements carry me away. Afterward I felt a deep sense of peace and calm when I was finished.
I didn’t know what to call it that I was doing, but I just knew I felt better after I did it. I started to move in this way at the beach and at the park, and when I opened my eyes- I always had a small crowd of people around me from children to the elderly asking what it was I was doing, what it was called, and if they can learn. So I decided to start filming myself, I realized the movements were of certain shapes and patterns that were strung together in a sequence. I broke down the sequences and started calling sort patterns of shapes “Basic Forms”. I then realized I could truly teach this way of moving. This meditative movement practice is called GuanJing Method. A practice that is energetic alchemy through movement to transform suffering into renewed life force energy. And this has been my path ever since.”
Can you share the most interest in exciting happened to you since you started doing this?
Since teaching this new movement form, it has to fully connect back to my intuition. For so many of us, our innate intuitive abilities get cut off by the way we are raised and the way society operated. Moving in harmony with my body has taught me so much about trusting the feelings that arise, especially during challenging times. When I move in this way, the animals come. The sky parts, and it’s as if the whole universe is dancing with me. A cocreation of beautiful energy all around and within.
Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them thrive and not “burn out”?
“Social media has made the world such a different place. We now live in a world where the most enlightened and holy of teachers will get cast aside for a workshop at a festival if their following on Instagram isn’t a certain number. And the girl in a bikini doing a backbend will get their spot with the title “namaste” will get the spot because she has 2k “likes”.
It challenges our authenticity, it surely did for me. But I believe the more we make decisions from a place of love and not fear, we are on the right path. The more we make decisions that deepen our connection with ourselves, each other, and the planet we live on- we are on the right path. The more you trust in the timing and pacing of how the future will unfold- we are on the right path. Destiny and free will are connected.”
None of us can succeed without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful for who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?
“I am so grateful to my friends and my beloved. Every friend I’ve ever known has been a truly wonderful friend who supported my vision no matter what it was.
My current partner Samuel has been by my side no matter what. I sometimes felt he believed in me more than I believed in myself. Having people in your life who belief in your highest potential is so important.
To have people who want to see you thrive and be happy and live your best life without undercurrents of resentment, ownership, or jealousy is so important. It took me a long time to be with a partner who truly wants to see me shine and holds me so high. It is transformative.”
How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?
My movement method is to bring goodness to the world. To allow a safe space for people to explore their bodies, emotions, and thought patterns. To break the cycles of suffering. To fully embody the best version of themselves. All of the courses are meant to bring people back to their hearts. To experience life through the radiance of their heart.
Do you have a favorite “written Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?
“Discovering joy does not save us from the inevitability of hardship and heartbreak. We cry more easily, but we will laugh more easily too. Perhaps we are simply more alive. Yet as we discover more joy, we can face suffering in a way that ennobles us rather than embitters us. We have hardship without becoming hard. We have heartbreak without being broken.” – Archbishop TuTu
Emotional resiliency allows us to flourish. To fully experience life, we must be able to experience the whole spectrum of human emotions with graciousness. The meaning of my movement form “GuanJing “translates to the “essence or spirit of the mountain pass”. To move through the challenges in life with the grace and ease of the wind and water flowing through the tallest of mountains.
My highest hope is that everyone is able to experience this, freedom to allow the emotions to pass, and to come back to a place of balance. We are our most powerful, our most loving, our most capable when we are in a state of balance.”
