Interview with The Real Jonny Law @therealjonnylaw (motivatior)
Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
I have always wanted to help people, in general. One of the main ideas for me was to share what motivates me. I am an above-the-knee amputee on my right leg, and I needed to put a smile on my face by enjoying the humour. As I began that process, I also made friends around me laugh. My ideas and positivity were what allowed me the ability to come on to TikTok and share myself with my followers.
Can you share the most interest in what exciting happened to you since you started doing this?
I never expected to become an influencer. I had fun on my Instagram and YouTube and was told by people close to me to begin sharing on TikTok. When I started doing that well, my life began blossoming. I met a few people near me where I live who saw a few videos I made. I’ve gotten opportunities to share in public venues about my beliefs. That has opened me to speaking more openly in public.
Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them thrive and not “burn out”?
One of the main things I had to overcome was being shy. I try to always speak from my chest but keep my voice volume manageable and pace so that I can edit it if needed. The other thing I was taught to me by another person I know from Twitch is to always talk like a million people are watching you. Even if you get no views on a video, continue talking to the camera as if a million people are watching you. Lastly, when someone comments on your video, like that comment and respond to it. Nothing makes your viewers happier than when you talk to them directly.
None of us can succeed without some help along the way. Is there a particular person you are grateful for who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?
My mother. She able me to become the person I am today. Without her directness and her love, I would be lost now. There was one time that I wanted to become a youth pastor, and my mom asked me to start going to the Boys & Girls Club to hang out with kids and to do it consistently for six months. Then we discussed what I wanted to do. She was the best part of my life.
How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?
Since I have begun to grow on social media, I’ve taken every chance to help people when they have questions about faith or who need direction in life. I believe you have to be the smile you want to see in the world.
Do you have a favourite “written Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?
The best quote for me is “Always roll forward, never backwards” That has been a driving part of my life. After dealing with depression, I could have gone down a dark path and almost did. Rolling forward means always continue living. I always want to be a shining light in this world.
