INTERVIEW WITH RAAJA VIJAPURAPU (@rajaavijapurapu)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

From my childhood, I’ve always had an interest in singing. Classical music always stood out for me out of all genres which is what led me to my career. My songs are based on Carnatic music. I mostly make covers of the old classic films of the 1980s to early 2000s from Tollywood. I developed an interest in photography later when I started noticing the beauty of nature and wanted to share it with others. Even though it isn’t my career but I intend to keep it as a hobby.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

Carnatic music isn’t easy to sing, it takes years of practice to have the correct vocals and have the right pitch. My advice would be that don’t quit once you’ve started every time you practice you get better. Perfect your singing style with constant practice and hopefully, you will be successful

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

I am grateful to my family. They have supported me from the start when I entered this industry in 1998 and they still continue to encourage me and motivate me to work hard. In the start, I didn’t have a positive response from my audience which made me think I’m not good enough but my family supported me and told me to not give up easily. Thanks to them I stayed strong and made it here today.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

I believe that making covers of the old classic music helps keep the culture alive. No doubt the new music in the industry has its own taste but nothing beats the classic. By using the advanced platforms and recording classic songs on them promotes and keeps Carnatic music alive.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

“Look deep into nature and you will understand everything better”. While going through a difficult phase in my life I started admiring nature and it made me realize the blessings of God upon me and how I can not let one thing put me down.
