Interview with Paul John (@pauljohndc)
Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
The turning point in my life that brought me to this specific career path was when I dropped out of college and pursued table games dealing. It was 21 when I first started my casino adventures. On my 21st bd I decided to go gamble at the casinos for the first time and that was when my interest in table games started. At the time I was still a college student and I only had one year left to graduate, the problem was I hated college and had changed my major 3 times because I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I finally decided to drop out and once I did my life changed for the better. I went to dealing school and got my first job as a table games dealer at 4 Queens Hotel and Casino. My acting career started around that time as well, I was contacted through backstage about a job offer for a small role in an Indie film. It was filmed December of 2021 and I got my first break in role through that. I started my poker career not long after.
Can you share the most interest in exciting happened to you since you started doing this?
The most interesting story that has happened was at work when I was dealing blackjack, a customer made a deal with me that she would show her breasts if I dealt her a blackjack. The inevitable happened and she got dealt a blackjack, I yelled in excitement and she quickly pulled her bra down to reveal her breasts. It was probably the best customer I’ve ever had dealing blackjack.
Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them thrive and not “burn out”?
Focus on yourself and what you can bring to the table. Don’t worry about what others can do because they’ll never be like you
None of us can succeed without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?
Aside from my parents I’m most grateful for my best friend Nick who has taught me important values and lessons in life that have helped me grow and mature as a person. Every time we’d have a conversation I would always leave with some valuable information. The first time we met I remember I told him I wanted to be a singer and he asked what I was doing to reach that goal. I paused for a moment because I didn’t know how to answer that question. I was doing absolutely nothing to reach that goal, and he made me thing about my decisions in life which nobody has ever done before.
How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?
I’ve used my success to help inspire others like me to strive for greatness and follow what they’re most passionate about. There are not a lot of Filipino Americans who has accomplished what I have, and by doing so, I open the door to many others so they can be inspired and motivated.
Do you have a favorite “written Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?
“If you never try, you’ll never know”. This quote speaks to me because it always leaves me thinking “what if” what if I had done that, what would’ve happened? The quote instills a lesson in me that you should always try new things and if it doesn’t work then try something else. It’s a reminder to live life and not be afraid of anything. Fearlessness
