Interview with
Onix Dobarganes-Rodrigani

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

For as long as I can remember, I wanted to become a children’s book author, however, years went by and I would prioritize other goals. In 2019, during a business trip around Europe, I began conceptualizing the Lenny & Leah travel series, which guided me to write my first book, Lenny & Leah Explore Italy, published in October 2020.

So why a children’s book, you may ask?

Academically and professionally speaking, my background is in Psychology. I am a licensed mental health counselor, specializing in behavior analysis. My practice, Spectrum Behavior Consultants LLC, focuses on assisting children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in acquiring functional communication, social and adaptive skills, as well as coaching their caregivers. I enjoy working with children, especially tapping into their imagination, which is so daring and limitless.

Aside from clinical work, I am the co-founder and president of the YOHAN RODRIGANI® brand. I am fortunate to not only share my life with a talented designer, Yohan Rodrigani, but also build a luxury brand that I foresee an extraordinary future for. We launched in 2015 as a jewelry brand and in 2019, expanded into the leather goods market, forming partnerships in Europe. Our journey as life and business partners has taken us to many places, cultivating relationships with people from all backgrounds.

These unique experiences served as the catalyst to create the Lenny & Leah travel series, which will not only introduce children to different countries, but also educate them and their families about the various languages, cuisines, and traditions that make up our world.

Thus far, I am beyond happy with the outcome of my first book and cannot wait to release the next series. I am super excited!

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

I always knew I wanted to write a children’s book or create a series of educational books, but little did I know that this concept would be born from a business trip, and so quickly materialize, leading to becoming Amazon Bestseller for Travel Books.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

I approach every endeavor with joy and passion. I find joy in what I do and the feedback I receive from others continuously fuels my passion and gives me that momentum to keep moving forward. However, I am human and there are days in which I just want a break, so I take it. I used to feel guilty about taking breaks, but I realized that to best meet the demands of my readers, to continue creating more and giving more, it is essential to practice self-care. So every morning I go out for a walk or jogging and in the last few minutes, I focus on admiring my surroundings – listening to the birds, watching the trees dance with the breeze, calming my breathing, and giving thanks for another day.

None of us can achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

First and foremost, my parents. My parents have always cheered and supported every move I have made. They’ve played a big role in my success. Also, my husband consistently pushes me every day to be better and do better.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

My work is not only meant to educate children about the world abroad but to instill curiosity for what lies on the other side of the hemisphere and develop a sense of compassion and understanding for the differences amongst us.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

Be equally grateful for the good and bad you come across. It is really in the toughest moments that creativity flourishes and you gain more confidence about yourself and the path you want to take. When I finished the first draft of Lenny & Lenny Explore Italy, I contacted every publisher you can think of. Although most were cordial, they rejected my manuscript and seldom gave me feedback. After countless revisions, I was picked up by a publisher. Interestingly, after my book was released in October, I received welcoming emails from those same publishers that initially turned me down, wanting to work with me on the next book. Every business you embark on will have its challenges. Those challenges are necessary to learn, grow, truly get out of your comfort zone, and unleash your potential.
