Interview with Omi Patel (@omi.eth)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
First of all, thank you for having me. Yes definitely, I would love to share my journey. So when I moved to the United States, I had decided that I would do something big for myself, and I am not going to stop until I achieved it. I still haven’t achieved it yet, but I am working hard every day to get there as someone told me once that there is not a single in our life where we can learn something new. that quote keeps me going every day. While I was growing up, I got a lot of criticism, which made me stronger and stronger. It made my goal even clear. Every time I failed or something wrong happened, I kept that mistake in my mind and told myself every day that so I don’t make that same mistake, and I analyzed everything I did so I don’t make the same mistakes as my past. During my middle and high school times, I was so shy because I was the new kid in the school. Still, as soon as I started college, I decided that I didn’t want to be that kid anymore, so I started taking acting classes in the summer so I could pursue my dream of becoming an actor. I still remember how nervous I was when I started my class as I was the only rookie in the class. In my acting class is where I found my mentor Patrick. He is a friend, brother, and mentor to me as he had taught me many things, and I wouldn’t be here without his help, so I want to thank him for everything he has done for me. Love you, bro!! After finishing my class, I booked my first gig as a reoccurring character on the amazon prime series Panic. My character name is Jose in the show. Unfortunately, the show didn’t do well, so they had to cancel it, but it is a very interesting show in my opinion. After doing the show, I have been just working on improving my skills and seeing the progress I have made within myself. It makes me happy, and that is success to me. While we were fighting the pandemic, everyone had lost their job, including me, as the theater industry had taken a big hit, but that gave me time to learn new things and make money on the side when I am not working on a show or movie. I started trading crypto and NFTs to make money to pay for things. I have been flipping NFTs for the last year, and it is going well. I have been very successful at it, and it has made me thousands and thousands of dollars. The important thing to know is that when you are planning to become an actor, you need a secondary source of income; otherwise, it is tough to survive, so I am glad that I have crypto to fall on. I am currently part of many big projects in NFT and can’t wait to launch my own project. So this is my story. I hope it gives you a lot of information about where I come from and how I got here. Thank you
Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?
So it was the thanksgiving break week, and I was just getting done with school and about to head home. While I was sitting in my car, I was like, let me email my agent to wish him Happy Thanksgiving. So I wrote an email to him, and I started driving home. After I went home, I was very tired, so I took a shower and slept for a few hours. When I woke up, I got a reply from my agent saying I am dropping you. I was so scared and nervous to open the email. Here is the thing for an actor: when you lose your agent, you lose a lot of opportunities, too, so it’s a huge thing to have an agent in the industry. I waited 2 hours to open the email, and when I opened it, it said “I am dropping you” after that it had many spaces and at the end, it said “JK Happy Thanksgiving.” that was the most interesting thing that happened to me and it was the scariest thing happened to me.
Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?
I would say that never give up. There will be times when you will see others booking new shows and making more money by doing on the side too, so don’t pay attention to those things as your time will eventually come. Look at me. I still haven’t got a bigger show like Marvel as everything takes time, so patience is the key. If you learn to keep patience, you will be very successful in any industry you work in. Keep trying and do your best to be your best version of yourself, and good things will come.
None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?
Yes, my friend and mentor, Patrick. I met him in my acting class, and one day I hit him up to help for an audition I had, and he was there for me, helping me as much as he could. He even offered me to film my audition. From that day, we became really good friends, and he is the guy got to when I have something I need help on. He is the guy for an audition I have. he has always been there for me, so I want to give 100% credit to him. I still remember I had no money for headshots, and Patrick was a photographer, so he offered to take my headshots for free, and I would never forget what he has done for me and can’t thank him enough for what he has done for me. Love you, bro!!
How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?
Yes, I have. After I started making money via flipping NFTs and trading crypto, I started donating a lot of my profits as I always wanted to give back to my community. I don’t like to mention everything as I want to keep it anonymous. I believe that when you donate or help someone, you should never talk about it or share it with others because I feel like it is bragging. So that defeats the purpose of doing good, so keeping it anonymous is the way to go. So coming back to the point, I go to GoFundMe now and then and donate to people who are really in need, and I do it as anonymous, so I keep the privacy and bragging out of the way.
Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?
“Once you stop learning, you start dying” This quote is by Albert Einstein, and it defines what I am. As an Actor and trader, you need to learn new skills every day and keep your learning going because if you don’t, there is going to be someone who is polishing abilities, and they will beat you to the punch. So having an open mind about learning new things and being excited about learning new things will make anyone successful in the industry they work in. I know many people who are open to learning new things when required, and most of them are very successful, so there is proof of this working.
