Interview With Monde Gris (@monde.gris)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
I do photography on the side. I realized there weren’t many photographers capturing life in the Windsor and Detroit area the way I see it, so I went forward and attempted to do so myself.
Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?
The response I got was very unexpected. I initially made the page just for fun but started taking it more seriously after I would get requests from people to buy prints from me or do photoshoots for them. It’s been a fun entry into the Photography world.
Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?
Make sure to always do what you do because you enjoy it, not because you feel like you have to. A lot of my worst images came from days when I was more focused on capturing an image that I think would get lots of likes. It is not fun working that way and overthinking can really take away your touch from your work.
None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?
I’m super grateful to my friend Janki. She’s always hyped up my work from the first day. One single comment can really go a long way and make me feel good about my work and go forward. She’s always been super supportive and helped me out heaps with editing and choosing which pictures to post and which ones to scrap.
How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?
I recently opened an online store where I sell products featuring my original work on it. It is open to shop but I still am figuring things out on how to make the site look nicer and adding new products. I have a deadline set for April. Once I hit that deadline and the site is finalized, I will be having 10% from all orders go towards a charity. I’m not sure which one as of yet. I’m still doing research and finding charities in the Detroit-Windsor region since all of my work has been shot here and I would love to give back to it.
Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?
Always look on the bright side of a Shadow. Don’t follow someone blindly. Don’t do hard work, do smart work. Relating to my life, I always followed my passion. That’s why I am happy and passionate about my work.
