Interview with Mikey_Rocks @mikey_rocks (TikToker)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

It’s funny, I was born and raised in Chicago, and when I turned 27, I decided to move to Las Vegas, NV, for a change in life and left everything behind. Leaving friends, and family, was a hard decision, but I did it. I have been here for 5 years, and it’s been lonely and somewhat depressing. Then I remembered I had TikTok, and it was the solution! I would never have thought I would have found genuine people that you can call family on an app. you meet people from all over the world that share the same interests, life issues, relationship status, or go through the same thing. Because of that connection, I decided to pursue the creator path on TikTok.

Can you share the most interest in what exciting happened to you since you started doing this?

Same as the previous question! as a male, we never really talk about how we can be “depressed” or “sad” because it shows a sign of weakness, and as a man, we are supposed to be “strong.” Honestly, meeting so many people who found the same solution in TikTok to get ourselves out of the “dark cloud” or “funk” has been amazing. This happened with going “LIVE” and seeing all the viewers coming in and interacting with my first LIVE; it resonated and kept me going. That’s why I like to post videos of “everyday life situations” that are relatable. It’s truly awesome.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them thrive and not “burn out”?

I recommend that with TikTok, you treat it like your day job; give yourself a break if you need it! Take that PTO, take that break. Sometimes you need a moment to breathe and clear your mind to create new content. It’s not a race, do things at your own pace.

None of us can succeed without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful for who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

When I started TikTok, I wasn’t sure how things worked with LIVES, posting content, or just how to act on this app. So I have to thank @wellnesswithlys and @vegaskid700 for giving me tips at the beginning of my start on TikTok. Even today, @vegaskid700 and I go over trends, new tactics, and what seems to work best in our lives! A little back story on this, one day, I just so happened to stumble into @wellnesswithlys LIVE and was amazed how someone I didn’t know interacted with comments and just acknowledged me; it made me feel like I was capable of doing the same thing. I am naturally a social person and can always put a smile on anyone’s face, so it was at this point I knew I could take my skills and grow on TikTok. Now I am over 40k followers and growing. My last LIVE had over 2k viewers, so I know this is the right choice for me. All because of the kindness of 2 creators on TikTok that inspired me to go this route.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

I have been making sure I acknowledge mental awareness and being there for anyone who needs to talk or converse about their day. TikTok LIVES have been great for that. I occasionally use the gifting tool to go in on my followers’ LIVES and send a look of love back. Seeing how much that affects a person is a beautiful thing. It’s a nice little way of giving back. We never know a person’s backstory, but you can always tell from facial expressions. In short, I have been using my success to give back to the smaller creators of TikTok to show that no matter the social status, we are all human.

Do you have a favorite “written Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

Honestly, mine is “it is what it is.” I grew up in a property status and have been through some life challenges that most people won’t understand. The quote reminds me that you can’t expect everything in the world or anything handed to you; you have to work for it. It also reminds me that you will have failures in life but have to treat them as a lesson; it is what it is, and push harder!

How can our readers follow you on social media?

Of course, you can follow me on TikTok @mikey_rocks, Instagram @miikey_rocks, and Snapchat

Anything specific you’d like to have mentioned in the article?

Work your magic! I have nothing specific to add. Put in what you think will work. We are all human and go through the same life problems, so don’t feel like you’re going through things alone, regardless of your social status and success.
