Interview with Michellee Fox (@chefmichelleefox)
Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
My origin story begins with my grandmother. I grew up watching her cook every day and learning from her from an early age. She groomed my taste for traditional food and inspired me to become like her. Now, the kitchen is a happy place, and I look forward daily to going in there and cooking something great to inspire others online.
Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?
Farming is consistent dedication, thus there is no advice but to keep at it, and know your rights as a farmer in the state you live in. Chefs are different as cuisine is something that is very close to a person. I love traditional Brazilian dishes and someone else might love Indian. The goal is to explore, express, and practice cooking. Take up a new challenge every day in the form of a new technique or dish and practice it until you perfect it. There is no other way out so just push through the thorns towards a clear pathway. On the other side, you will find your success, so take your time and work hard every single day.
None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?
I live for my family and my family lives for me. My children, partner and friends mean the world to me. My grandmother inspired me to become the person I am today, and everyone else in my life is involved in my business and supports me all the way. I will always be grateful to have these individuals in my life.
How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?
I am the cheeriest in the kitchen. Food and surrounded by cookery make me happy in a way I cannot fully describe in words. The beauty of creating something out of small ingredients is fascinating and I know I was always destined to make food and be a chef. I feel marvellous when I get the chance to feed others delicious food and see the smile on their faces from the satisfaction. I believe the way to spread goodness is to feed others in a healthy and safe way that harms no one. Food gives us life, and sadly we have turned it into a deadly weapon for diseases and death. I want to spread a love for good nourishing food to others, hoping that they enjoy and change their lifestyles for the better.
Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?
“Watching my surroundings change into fall reminds me that nothing is forever. That our lives change and take shape according to our actions.”
This quote is the philosophy of life for me. Life is all about changes and it’s in our hands which direction we take our life. Yes, some happenings are out of our control, however, the reactions to the uncontrollable changes are not. In the end, it is on our end to do good, or reflect badly on ourselves and the society we live in. Life flashes by so fast no one can even tell when we became our present selves. All I know is that changing our own life is in our hands, with the choices and actions we make. The current decide our future, so I hope to always have a future that I won’t regret looking back to. That is my life goal.
