Interview with Kashmir (@thisiskashmir)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
I’ve always loved art and fashion, even as a young kid. I originally wanted to be an author of children’s books where I would write and illustrate my books, but as I grew, the type of art I love changed and grew. About six years ago, while working as an artist, I was also interested in beauty, specifically skin and hair care. I decided to go to esthetics school because of this and became a licensed esthetician. I then created a brand, Delish Condish, where I create affordable plant-based skincare products.
Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?
I’ve had so many interesting things happen to me regarding my art – more specifically, who has become a fan of it and publicly supported it. The most interesting was when Issa Rae reached out to me to collaborate on art for her brand Awkward Black Girl.
Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them thrive and not “burn out”?
Finding a work/life balance can be hard, but it’s truly important. My tips would always be to put yourself first and listen to your body. When it’s saying rest, rest; heal it when it’s not feeling well. You can’t pour from an empty cup. The world needs you and your gift, and it’s important to take care of yourself so that you can give your best art to this world – it needs it.
None of us can achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a person you are grateful for who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?
Absolutely! I’m so grateful to my husband because he allowed me the time and space to focus solely on myself and my art and education. Without him, I may not have done so.
How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?
I’ve contributed to many different organizations and causes with my platforms. I am helping to provide funding for Black woman entrepreneurs, donating to protestor bail funds and activist orgs, and donating toys, toiletries, and clothing to the Atlanta Children Shelter for those in need.
Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?
My favorite life lesson quote is, “you don’t have to see the whole staircase to take the first step.” I’m notorious for getting in my head and standing in my way because of “what if.” When I heard it, this quote stuck with me because it’s all about taking a chance, taking that first step, and letting whatever happen.
How can our readers follow you on social media?
You can follow my skincare brand Delish Condish at @DelishCondish on TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter! For my art brand, KashmirVIII, you can follow me on Instagram @KashmirVIII. My personal TikTok is a mixture of everything I do and can be found at @thisiskashmir.
Anything specific you’d like to have mentioned in the article?
That I’m a serial entrepreneur with two different brands and that I am soon diving into fashion, with my first endeavor being a collaboration with mega-brand Shein.
