Interview with K.A.S.H (@kash_thekhan)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

Started DJing in Montreal, Canada at the age of 19. Inspired by the rave scene and electronic music culture cultivated in Stereo Nightclub, Piknic Electronik and IglooFest. I knew I loved music, but after learning to mix and the feeling of engagement with people on a different level, I knew I would be doing this for a long time. I didn’t think of it as a career till I was playing every weekend and producing my own shows years later in Vancouver, Canada.

Can you share the most interest in exciting happened to you since you started doing this?

The story of Sunwave would be the most interesting and influential to my musical journey. A small idea became a movement. Once founded in 2014, we never would have thought we’d be doing shows all across Vancouver, almost a decade later. I was always focused on the art and music, not wanting to get involved with running a event production company. One show at a time, our name, our team and our following got bigger and bigger, till people in Europe and America and across Canada were paying attention.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them thrive and not “burn out”?

The music industry especially DJ world, is probably the toughest career path to survive in, let alone “thrive”. I’ve seen many new DJ’s come get popular with some homies and groupies for a short while, then they disappear into the wind! Some people and focus on a different career, some check into rehab. I live, breathe and eat music. I found what loved and I’ll let it kill me. For me this is what I do best and have a blind belief that it is the way. So that keeps me motivated to be creative.

None of us can succeed without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

I thank my family, my fiance, my dog and most of all my team for all my success. They keep me motivated and support my passion and vision of what we’re trying to achieve. I have one of the most hardworking team of people behind me, who’ve risked broken backs and sanity on completing projects with me.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

Sunwave started off with me alone, and now employs over 100 people per year. This includes our Artists, Production Staff, Designers, Security and Bar Tenders and Local Businesses in Vancouver. We have become a community of 1000’s of people who share love and find comfort in our shows.

Do you have a favorite “written Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

Be Water Quote By Bruce Lee: You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. You put it into a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.”
