Interview with Julian Jermaine (@officialjulianjermaine)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

I always loved expressing myself through stories as a kid, writing, and poetry have been with me since the beginning. I picked up rapping around the age of 14. I started writing my own songs inspired by the classic records and hip hop artists I was listening to

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

Yes, I remember doing my first show, to be able to perform in front of a live audience was awesome to be able to command the stage to meet other artists was an amazing experience that I learned from. That was a moment that I felt alive and I was so happy I knew this was something I wanted to do forever. I can also recall a time when I did an underground rap battle it was a very vintage hip-hop experience, the crowd was very engaged and it was an intimate experience, it was like I walked into a real-life 8-mile set. I challenged like five people and took home the trophy. It definitely a time when I had to adjust my rapping style based on the crowds’ reaction to our punchlines, the timing was perfect everything came together like a real perseverance moment as you see in a movie! It was a phenomenal feeling.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

I would say never stop having fun, never make it seem like work, and to also create based upon your feelings and emotions, never create your art from a place of desperation because that energy will transfer to your listeners and it will make your record seem forced. If you never take time to enjoy yourself you will get burned out. Always seize the opportunity and treat it like every project is your first.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

I would have to say, my wife! She has always been my number one fan always reminding me of how talented I was from the first moment she ever heard my music. That type of encouragement makes you zoom in and focus on perfecting your craft in a way where you are constantly pushing yourself to create and to get better and to never give up.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

I always try to share my experience’s in a positive manner to help others through my story and those who struggle and has gone through some of the things I went through my music is like a motivational speaker, I encourage people to live their best lives and take control of it by having accountability and loving themselves and others. I  always give people the view that every coin has two sides.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

“What you do speaks so loudly I can’t hear what you say” basically just having integrity, there were moments where I felt like my actions did not line up to what my morals were and that quote has always helped me to adjust accordingly whenever times of integrity came in to question.
