Interview with Jesper Wikstrom (@jesswik)


Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

For me working as photographer has always been a dream i run several companies but photography always make me relax since i started study photography at Fotoskolan STHLM in early 90th it was a dream to one day live of my work, right now I’m doing 50 % music business and 50 % photography and it works out good and both can benefit from each other.

Can you share the most interest in exciting happened to you since you started doing this?

Not so long ago i did a trim to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia waking the streets just taking pictures of day to day street life. When i pass a puss station a well dressed man standing waiting outside and i snap his picture posting it later on instagram with #addisababa it took 3 hour then unknown to me user write me saying that is my uncle on the pic and they love it
I will bring them a good print next time i go down to Ethiopia

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them thrive and not “burn out”?

Work with what you like when your workday feels like “I’m doing what makes me happy ” the is an amazing feeling. You need to do the maths get yourself a reasonable profit of the job you do, forget doing free jobs for exposure.

None of us can succeed without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

Find a mentor you can follow learn from go to workshops there are manny photographer you can find online with good content to learn from, don’t be afraid to reach out to them most of them are willing to share and teach you something.


How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

For me giving back is an essential part of life i have found a charity that is very dear to my heart and that is charitywater.org you should all check them out
