INTERVIEW WITH JAMES WORTHEN (@ftbcustoms)

Interview with James Worthen (@ftbcustoms)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

I got tired of seeing the same type of clothes all the time. I wanted to create something new for people. I also love giving things away so I decided to combine the two. Now we’re giving away a $100k truck!

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

We like to do lots of giveaways. Some smaller than others. A few weeks back we gave away 3 $100 Amazon gift cards. To receive an entry you just have to share our posts. Well, one of the winners that won one of the gift cards was in Pennsylvania and she had been without power for two days due to being unable to afford to pay the bill. The $100 was a little shy of the bill. So instead of sending the $100 Amazon gift card we sent her $165 to get her power back on.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

Stay innovative. While it’s impossible to “reinvent the wheel” you can still make the wheel sexier and bolder than some other wheels. And have fun with the work. Make it fun. Bring customers or potential customers into the marketing side and have fun with it.

Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

I’m super grateful for the grit and hard work my dad instilled in his children. My dad worked multiple physical jobs at a time. From mining to lumberjacking, all the way to the Army guarding the Czechoslovakian border. But he did it to support his family and his wife. He did it until it completely broke his body. He couldn’t lift anymore, walk very far, or stand for very long. It hit him at a younger age too, in his 50’s. And his pride really messed with him. Not being able to work anymore and having to raise us kids really messed him up. But he did his best and excelled at that also. Everything he did he gave 100% of his mind body and soul to. He never let bumps in the road drive him off course. He was the definition of the hard-working American dream.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

We are huge animal lovers and personally, our family owns 3 Labrador Retrievers, Dexter, Hank, and Moose. We live in a very scary world and sometimes we forget that our animals live in that same world. With animal shelters receiving less and less help with donations we took it as an opportunity to help. So a donation is made to the Idaho Humane Society from every one of our giveaways.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

“I don’t want to be the next Michael Jordan, I only want to be the next Kobe Bryant.” -Kobe Bryant. I relate to this quote on so many levels. There are so many apparel lines that giveaway amazing trucks and they are absolutely killing it! I’ve entered some of them myself!! But we don’t want to be them. We want to be FTB Customs. We want to sell apparel that is unique to our brand snd we want our giveaways to follow that same thought. Super unique trucks and UTV’s.
