Interview with Jacob Ward (@jacobwardd)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

I have been passionate about sport and fitness for as long as I can remember. I started going to the gym at the age of 15, to facilitate my performance as an Academy cricketer. However, my dream of becoming a professional cricketer ended at the age of 17 when I tore a disc in my lower-back. My world felt like it had come crashing down. However, this allowed me to switch career directions. I started tracking my recovery journey in the gym on social media. I had little traction at first but then started to see my audience grow. I have since managed to establish a large audience on social media who follow me for fitness tips, advice and modelling content. Things really started to kick off for me when I joined TikTok. I remember posting a 10 second clip of me cycling, not thinking much of it and waking up with over 4 million views on said video. Life has been a whirlwind since and I am so grateful for the support that I have received.

Can you share the most interest in exciting happened to you since you started doing this?

Getting recognised in public is something that always seems to amaze me. I regularly have people coming up to me saying “Hey, you’re that cyclist!”. I’ve had so many interesting interactions with fans which has really made me appreciate the impact that I am having on the fitness industry. If I can be responsible for someone who isn’t active to starting leading a healthier active lifestyle, I’ve done my job!

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them thrive and not “burn out”?

The key is to enjoy what you do, both from a content creation point of view on social media and fitness. When you enjoy the process it doesn’t feel like work, it is play! I love what I do and wouldn’t trade it for anything.

None of us can succeed without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

Meeting and becoming friends with notable figures in the industry such as Tom Daley has been invaluable for me. We’ve since become workout buddies & you’ll often find us in Barry’s getting our sweat on!

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

Since building a large platform on social media I have realised the importance & feel like it is my duty to be an advocate & campaigner for mens mental health. As someone who has struggled with anxiety and my mental health in the past, I want to remove the stigma surrounding discussing this topic. I have since co-founded Fundamental, an interactive lifestyle space for men to meet like minded men, allowing them to thrive!

Do you have a favorite “written Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

If you can dream it, you can do it.

How can our readers follow you on social media?

Anything specific you’d like to have mentioned in the article?

Could you mention the viral Tiktok content that I have created, which has led to building such a large audience on social media. Also my friendship with Tom Daley and being a mens mental health campaigner are key talking points.
