Interview with Graham David (@grahamdavid)
Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
I have delivered corporate training for 25 years, and have built my success on “live and face to face” events. When the pandemic hit I switched my method to working online and wondered if I would be able to build a community online. I chose TikTok (as the most responsive platform) with the intention of building a community of 10,000 people interested in my approach. I hit 12500 in month two and have continued to grow and develop my channel to help people learn how to make and save money and get out of debt and start a new business. I am now about to hit a quarter of a million Followers which just blows my mind!
Can you share the most interest in exciting happened to you since you started doing this?
I was personally invited to speak at an event in Gibraltar where I had the honour and privilege of speaking to an a VIP audience including the Governor of Gibraltar. Over the last few years I have spoken in 25 different countries to tens of thousands of conference delegates and now on TikTok my viewing numbers are in the millions … I even got recognised at the chip shop recently!
Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them thrive and not “burn out”?
People in our industry tend to be very passionate about what we do .. we tend to really give it everything and are always looking for ways to improve what we are offering … it is so vital to take a step back .. move away from the camera or the venue and get outside. Stay in touch with those closest to you .. oh and have a “hard stop” bed time! Even if you have to work late to get a script ready, have a time you never work past to give yourself time to relax before you sleep. I sometimes find this advice difficult to follow but it is so important.
None of us can succeed without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story? *
I remember when I was trying to decide what courses I should take when I was younger. I really wanted to follow drama but was worried that would be a poor choice for my career. I asked my Dad and I will always remember that he told me if I didn’t follow what I wanted to do at that stage I would spend the rest of my life wondering what would have happened… I’m so glad I listened to him!
How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?
On TikTok my whole channel is the “real version” of helping people make and save money. Too many people online are out to sell high-priced courses and products .. I am determined to help others and have many comments from people who have found my videos helpful… I try and entertain also but don’t always get that right !
Do you have a favorites “written Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant I love the lyric in the Chumbawamba song “Tubthumping” .. “I get knocked down, I get up again, you ain’t ever going to keep me down”. I have met some brilliant people and worked for some amazing clients over the last 25 years … likewise on TikTok my community and everyone who contributes is all part of the success.
However it is also true to say that live conferences or live online events don’t always go as well as you hope – whether it is a technical issue, a strange reaction from someone in the audience or mistakes made in your own team.
I remember one event .. very high profile here in the UK. We had a series of small issues building up to the event but nothing major .. however .. on the day itself?!? Oh my word!! The venue made some major mistakes with the booking details, one of my team decided they wanted to leave during the event, we had one of the most “pushy” clients ever .. oh… and we had a total technical failure which meant we had to work something like 7 hours overnight to get everything back on track!
However .. the meaning of the lyric shone through, we pushed on, adapted and improvised and I am proud to say our client had no idea of the difficulties we had endured in the background!
How can our readers follow you on social media?
on TikTok @grahamdavid
Anything specific you’d like to have mentioned in the article? *
I am now building a whole new TikTok channel specifically to help people with the Cost of Living crisis and am looking to work with debt charities .. we only launched 48 hours ago and already have 1000 Followers.
