Interview with Dzenan Burekovic
Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
Football is something I would play even as a child, out in the streets having our own group of players and matches. It was fun and I stuck to it. There are so many football fans and kids who play it for fun; they love it. I was one of them too, but I took it to another level. As I grew my skills got better so I joined football, and started playing professionally. This is my life now, and honestly nothing better than getting up every day and doing what you really love.
Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?
It is very hard but be persistent and push forward every day. Even when you are at your limits, see your goal and remember why you started football. Every time you feel exhausted, rest for a bit, regain your strength as health is important and then go back in the field feeling as good as new.
None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?
My family are the ones that supported me while I shifted and transferred to places. It was not easy, but everyone around me made it easier to adjust and feel at home. Now, I am very determined to grow and let people see my talents and skills. I want to make my family proud of every step I make in the football field. Every time I enter the field, I do it for my family.
How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?
Football is love for people and genuine happiness. I have seen it with my own eyes, the passion people have for watching football in the stadium and getting to see their favorite team win. I want people to see and be proud of Turkey’s football team and perform in foreign matches more. I want to spread the love for football further and make people excited to have this in their lives.
Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?
“Football is like life. It requires perseverance, self-denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication, and respect for authority.”
This quote is by Vince Lombardi, and my motto in life when it comes to football. It shows the truth of life, and also explains the essence of football to people effectively. In the end, life is hard and so is football and both need serious dedication to survive through. There are a lot of ups and downs and remaining headstrong is the only way out, whether that hardship is in one’s life or in the football profession.
