Interview with Darius Wilson

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

I was inspired by many other lens creators into making filters, I am a current major in computer science anyways so I would love to learn some machine learning and put what I learn into lens creating.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

The most interesting story that has happened to me was that I thought I would fail at being a lens creator, but I actually woke up one day and I got emails saying my filter reached over 1million views, and I got very happy, I continued to make filters and all of them did well!

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

Some tips I would say is to not give up, giving up is basically setting you up for failure. You must believe you can succeed for success.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

I am grateful for my brothers because they also major in computer science as well and encouraged me to work harder as well in school. Lens creating was my idea, and friends gave me suggestions on what to make, I thought I would not do good at lens creating but I made it. I would also like to thank my mom for always pushing me when I was in my early teen to always work hard.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

I have used my success and brought it to computer science, and used some logical skills in computer science as well, and I always tell people to not give up, and I hope they get inspired by me because I share the same story with them.

Do you have a favourite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

“In order to believe, we must believe that we can”, is very relevant. I have this as my quote for my Instagram bio, and it’s been there for years. I really believe in this because if you do not put in the hard work, you will not succeed, and I thought about giving up lens creating after my filters didn’t do well, but I continued to make better filters and they did well.
