Interview with Clara Mertz (@clara_maiwouri8)
Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
I don’t think anything specific brought me to this “path” since I have been involved in sports for a long period of my life, but a lot of people are intimidated by the idea of doing many things and once, and I just wanted to show that it is all possible with commitment. I obviously love my life, basketball and everything else, and I wanted to share that.
Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?
As an athlete myself, juggling other things at the same time, I think the most important thing is to know your own limits. In the world of sports, being careless can result in unimaginable damage, so knowing when to stop and giving yourself some rest is key.
None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?
All my fellow players and coaches who have pushed me to do what I love and have helped me reach for my goals. Them, along with my family have given me the strength to be unwavering in the face of fear.
How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?
If I can inspire even one young woman to push for her goals and passions in the face of hurdles and inhibitions, I will consider myself to have been successful in bringing some goodness into the world.
Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?
“I’ve grown most not from victories, but setbacks. If winning is God’s reward, then losing is how he teaches us.” – Serena Williams
As a fellow athlete, Serena Williams inspires me to face anyone who doubts me or puts me down and prove that I deserve what I have and where I am in life.
