Interview with Bruce W. Brackett (@)bwb.artist
Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
There are too many people who feel so alone. Who’s stories are not heard, ever. They never found access to their voice’s or they never received help to recover. For some reason, I was able to find and use my voice. As long as I have a voice and some light, I will forever shine the light for others left in the darkness. I find it’s part of my responsibility as someone who is successfully recovering.
Can you share the most interest in exciting happened to you since you started doing this?
So many examples to choose from but if I could choose one it would be, have people pretend to be me online. That’s never happened to me before. It’s some type of flattery but it’s also a bit bizarre. The most rewarding part about what I do is knowing that I am able to actually be there and help others. There is not greater feeling of good then sharing love to all. It’s free to live by the way. We should all try it. It changed my life, for sure!
Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them thrive and not “burn out”?
Remember to rest! Resting is such an important part of advocacy work. It’s also a huge part of recovery in general. Finding small or big moments to sit back, to rest and to observe all of one’s hard work can be so motivating to keep going. It’s finding the balance. Easy example; If you don’t have balance you fall over. (Silly metaphor to remind me to rest.)
None of us can succeed without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story? *
Again, way to many examples and people who I could list. I would like to thank each Therapist I have ever had over the last 25 years of being in therapy. I would like to thank all the Dr’s and Specialist along the way. I would like to thank all the nurses and staff members of the residential treatment centers, rehabs and hospital stays. Not to mention my friends, Katt Atkins, Frances Azucena, Adina Bloom, Jay Connor and my sisters April, Megan and Stephanie for being there for me before, during and after my active addictions. To my loving and accepting parents! I was so blessed with the most incredible adoptive parents. Last but definitely not least, to the love of my life who knows me better than I care to admit. My fiancé, Teo Emptage. I love you with my entire heart.
How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?
I have raised money for several different organizations and charities such as Transuniting in PA, It Gets Better, Trevor Project, Mental Health and Addiction Network in Salem, MA. And more. I make sure that if my Lives or Posts are not sharing joy, positivity or pure good in the world than I don’t post it. I raise awareness for harm reduction, abuse prevention, mental health and addiction issues. I find a way to make this recovery thing, positive and possibly even fun. I guess that depends on who you ask though.
Do you have a favorites “written Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?
“Do your best, Do no harm, and do for others. Please make sure you are doing for yourself every single day so that you can do for others.â€- my father Glenn Brackett
These are the 3 Do’s that my father has always bestowed upon me. I never listens until I was ready. I know live by these 3 Do’s and I am finding my peace more and more everyday. When I am losing my way I remind myself of this. It’s like having an over adjustment. Just feel good. He also reminds me everyday to find something I’m grateful. Helps to keep me grounded.

Anything specific you’d like to have mentioned in the article? *
