Interview with Break the Love @breakthelove
Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
Break the Love’s story started with one Google search by me, who moved to a new place and wanted to start playing tennis again to connect with new people and play more regularly after taking a hiatus from it as a busy working adult. I spent several hours searching across lots of websites for players to play with and places to play. I thought it would be simple to find that through a club, and after dozens of phone calls, she realized that all of the options were either inconvenient to schedule, expensive, or had outdated values. Frustrated and disappointed by what was being offered around me, I created Break the Love, initially as a meetup, where I started to organize group-based tennis activities with people I connected with at local parks & clubs.
Can you share the most interest in what exciting happened to you since you started doing this?
A few months into running my meetup, the community grew. At the time, in New York, I found that most players & enthusiasts didn’t play tennis because it was either inconvenient to find both similar levelled players & courts or it was too expensive for them to start learning as a beginner through private lessons. With this fact combined with my frustration from my own experience, Trisha set out to build a tech platform to help people get out and play tennis, connect with others through the sport, and learn the sport in a fun & convenient way through group-based tennis activities. I had built a basic version of Break the Love in 2019 before co-founder Tess Szymanski joined later that year, and since then has grown into one of the most comprehensive resources & communities for discovering and booking high-quality and unique group-based tennis activities to learn, train, or compete powered by passionate organizers & tennis pros.
Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them thrive and not “burn out”?
Learn the sport through group lessons, train for the sport through rallies, compete through tournaments or experience unique connections through getaways — everywhere from parks & clubs to the middle of the mountains with the help of our passionate pros there to ensure you have a great experience every step of the way.
None of us can succeed without some help along the way. Is there a particular person you are grateful for who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?
My team is my back born at every point. I appreciate them all for all the motivation they gave me.
How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?
I’m always trying to share my knowledge with the younger generation. I’m always trying to help out at youth clubs and teach them things I didn’t know at their age so that we can advance the sport much quicker.
Do you have a favourite “written Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?
“Don’t be lazy”, easy as that; you could do what you set yourself to do, don’t be lazy.
