Interview with Blingy @aquaticbling

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

I am a whale researcher & Naturalist & want to bring awareness to how important it is not to litter & keep our oceans clean for our marine life & world.

Can you share the most exciting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

I recently had a video I shared 1st on TikTok go globally viral. I was in the Gray Whale Nursery lagoons in Mexico & a lovely grey played with us for 2 hours. Then put our boat on her back & swam away with us! So rare & very exciting! Everyone has been so lovely about this video in the hundreds of thousands of comments I’ve gotten. Zero trolls! This has been a soul-changing experience for me & vicariously for others.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them thrive and not “burn out”?

Take the time to breathe & enjoy nature. Don’t focus on the bad stuff every second. There are lots of good things in the world too.

None of us can achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a person you are grateful for who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

I am grateful to all the friends I have met along the way that have a deep love for whales & other marine life.

In particular, I am grateful to Alisa Shulman Janiger & Diane Alps, who are my whale teachers, mentors & experts in their fields. Also, Ryan Lawler, owner of Newport Coastal Adventure, for being my Whale Guru & showing me all the incredible marine life I post about.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

I have! I have brought much awareness to people about how terrible Mylar balloons are for our environment.

How do we need to not litter & keep our oceans clean? Many people tell me I’ve taught them a lot about whales & dolphins & their children also love my content.

Do you have a favourite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

Never in my life did I think I would become a boat Captain. Or travel all over to see the world’s most enormous creatures. Then be playing, hugging & kissing whales in the wild. Never did I think I’d be an internet influencer.

My Life lesson quote is: Life is short, so live it to the most total & bring joy to everyone in your path! I do Pay it Forward every single day.

How can our readers follow you on social media?

TikTok, Instagram or YouTube

Anything specific you’d like to have mentioned in the article?

If everyone picked up just five pieces of trash every day, stopped buying Mylar/metallic balloons & using single-use plastic, we could make an impact on the amount of plastic trash that goes into our oceans
