Interview with Ben Pendergast (@itsboyinspace)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
Back in 2010, my old high school purchased some 3d printers and needed help setting them up, so I always wanted one for myself, but the hobby was a bit too pricey at the time.. fast forward to the beginning of 2021, I finally got my first 3d printer and decided to start posting my adventures daily on TikTok which has been an absolute blast! It’s been a wild 11 months on the platform, gaining almost 3million followers I recently moved to Seattle, and I’m now working for the 3DPrintingNerd on YouTube, somebody I’ve been watching for years.
Can you share the most exciting story that happened to you since you started doing this?
My friend union3dprinting on TikTok decided to make the octopus (Dwayne Johnson’s head on an octopus)

My channels are known for printing things significantly, so I decided to print an extended version which instantly went viral, gaining over 34 million views!

Then almost the entire 3d printing community on TikTok started placing the rocks head on various random models, then my friend craftykid3d decided to make the Dwayne chain, and I instantly knew I wanted to create my version and collaborating within the 3d printing community has been a massive part of why I love the platform so much!

Craftykid3d 3d sent me the 3D Model, and I got to work designing a spinning Dwayne chain with the rocks face! It turned out perfect! I even added tiny Diamonds!

The Rock Dwayne Johnson saw that video and dueted the entire video posted on his channel, gaining well over 40million views.
Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them thrive and not “burn out”?
Some days you might have multiple video ideas and even decide to film them all.

Just remember they have a drafts option, so you can always post those extra videos the next day so you can relax.
None of us can achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person whom you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?
When I started on TikTok, only a handful of creators in the 3D Printing community were posting daily, but one of them was my friend twisted transistor in the beginning; he helped me with any questions needed. Information on! And his drive to post content and interact with the community was inspiring, and it’s been something I’ve held onto ensuring that no matter what amount of followers I receive, I will continue to stay humble, stay positive, and help the community no matter what
How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?
I keep my content family-friendly and use my platform to inspire creativity and positivity!
Helping people in the community get into the hobby of 3d printing/3d design/video creation, and I’m incredibly proud to say I continue to help out creators as much as physically possible help achieve their goals, whether it’s collaborating or even discussing potential ideas to help grow their following/views.
Do you have a favourite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?
Push past the barriers you’ve placed in front of yourself. In life, we either get told we can’t do something. Or it’s ourselves putting that mental barrier up. You won’t ever know you can’t do something if you don’t try! Run at your dreams, take chances, inspire yourself, dream big.
