Interview with Ben Murray (@anothermurray)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

Music has always been a part of my makeup. Both my Mother and my Father were very musically inclined. My Mom had the voice of an angel. We loved singing together.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

I can remember when I auditioned for American Idol for the first time, standing in line for a day and a half singing with thousands of strangers; it was in this moment I saw the love and camaraderie of the people who shared this dream with me. It was then I felt I had found my place.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them thrive and not “burn out”?

Remember why you started; when you stop loving it, it ceases to be worth it.

None of us can achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a person you are grateful for who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

In this industry, it’s all about peer help. Being able to collaborate with various people is always a good practice. One time I was working retail at Levis when I met one of my best collaborators, Megan Daugherty. We spent most of our shifts together writing music. Most of which is on the first album

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

Trans rights are an issue that is very dear to me. I plan to use my platform to raise awareness and foster love and understanding.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

It sounds simple, but I can remember, as far back as forever, my Mom repeating, “that doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger.” It’s pretty much a mantra I repeat daily. Just a reminder that we are much stronger than we usually realize

How can our readers follow you on social media?

I’m on all the major platforms, but I tend to post more on Instagram @anothermurray.

Anything specific you’d like to have mentioned in the article?

Follow your dream and be kind to one another. We are all in this together.
