Interview with Baz Porter (baz__porter)
Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
After joining the British army, I thought my purpose was met. However, I developed severe PTSD and felt extremely lost in life. I even became a DJ in Cyprus with no care of the world. In time, I forced myself to become better, survive and pull myself through the hardships in my life. After changing my life, I wanted to help others achieve that too. So, I started a Facebook page first, and the response was massive. That took off my career to what it is today, and I stuck by my purpose each day; serving humanity.
Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?
It is a hard job not to let people’s struggles make you sad as well. As an empath, I challenge myself to help people using my abilities to feel their feelings and still not let it affect me in the long run. I would recommend others the same, and keep their mental health protected. Eventually, seeing improvement in a client’s progress always lights up anyone’s day, so I suggest others to look forward to that. It is not about how many followers, or clients you get, but about what you can provide them for their benefit. That leads one to the top.
None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?
My wife is my world, and I wouldn’t have grown in this career without her support by my side. At my lowest, I thought I was alone and no one was beside me. However, in reality I realized that was not a fact. I was always around supported loving people, and I was just confused and troubled to open my eyes and see it. I will always be grateful for the people around me who help me every day and bring a smile to my face.
How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?
I live to help people around the world. There is nothing more important to me than seeing my clients prosper in their lives, and find a way to overcome their struggles. I want to spread more awareness of mental health disorders and struggles around the world. I want to make people realize that it is okay to suffer, and okay to ask for help while struggling. The stigma associated with mental illness is degrading and I want people to see a different perspective, and not run away from seeking to better themselves.
Do you have a favourite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?
“Learn to accept responsibility and expect your growth.”
This quote will help you get better in life from the situation you are in. It is important for people to be aware of their surrounding and accept responsibility for their actions and the things in their control to change. This is how one can expect to grow and become a better person with more stability in their lives. There was a time I was lost as well, and just like everyone else, my life was in shambles. I was always confused and had no reason to want to live further. This is when I stood up and start looking at my own actions that affected me negatively, and changed them towards positive. It always starts with you, not anyone else but what can you do to improve yourself, and how will that improvement occur.
