Interview with Astrologer Laurie(@astro_laurie)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us what brought you to this specific career path?

Oddly enough I was a skeptic when astrology found me. Like most people my only knowledge of astrology was from popular culture & horoscopes in magazines. In 1995 I was trading my computer skills for time in the first internet cafe in Bahrain & stumbled on a message board and just wanted to know my Sun Sign. One of the astrologers offered to cast my chart, he was in Australia and there was no way he could know a tenth of the info he sent me. He told me I was a natural astrologer & he wanted to teach me. I told him, “Sure, but I’ll debunk it.”   But the more I dove into the subject the more I saw what an amazing tool it is not just for self understanding, but also to be aware of personal & global timing.

Can you share the most interest in exciting happened to you since you started doing this?

I’ve been a professional astrologer for almost 30 years, so there’s not much I haven’t seen as far as clients and personalities. It’s the prediction of events that gets me excited. Back in 1996 a mentor of mine who was in his 90s gave me some dates in the future to study. He emphasized I really study the year 2020. When I started studying the chart it was overwhelming and I started warning people close to me we were in for massive systemic change. People thought I was nuts because I wouldn’t shut up about it. I didn’t know what was coming, but I saw political & economic change on a global scale.  Those people were texting me a lot in 2020, lots of “you were right!”

The most fun thing in 2022 was calling the Superbowl down to the reffing and game play.  I’m not a sports fan, but I had a follower request a prediction in memory of her dad who passed away. I couldn’t say no to that, I’m a big softy. That prediction is up on Tiktok & it was a fun one.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them thrive and not “burn out”?

It’s important to charge a proper fee so there’s a fair energy exchange. It’s easy to have the hourly wage mindset, but there’s so much more than the 30 to 90 mins clients spend with you. You have prep time, experience, the training you’ve invested in. Not charging enough for what you bring to the table is a huge factor in burn out.

None of us can succeed without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

I have been so fortunate to have amazing mentors & teachers over the course of my life. The amazing  astrologer Joanne Wickenburg was one of my teachers, she was a founder of Kepler College. When I sat with her for a reading about 20 years ago she looked ar me straight in the eyes and said, “Stop thinking you need more qualifications! You don’t just go for it, write the books & teach classes.”

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

I’m absolutely dedicated to creating community spaces where people can connect, learn from one another & build relationships both on and off line.  In my Awake Space Community Discord we have hundreds of people who connect on everything you can think of from arts & music to growing  & making healthy food, to supporting each other with emotional support and referrals to professional resources. Astrology is reflective of life & I love using as a premise for people to connect to like hearted people.

Do you have a favourite “written Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

You know the Chinese curse? “May you have an interesting life.” I’ve lived it, I still do. The most dangerous thing I did was try to make my life “safer.”  As passionate as I am about metaphysics and astrology in specific, cloaking myself so I wouldn’t be so “weird” or obvious (I was referral only for 15 years) was the worst thing I could do. Allowing myself to freely be myself without masks or compromising who I am was the greatest gift.  You know the world can be a cold and cruel space but if we hide ourselves and abilities we rob ourselves of a full and rewarding life.
