Interview Liam Barker (@liambradleyofficial)
Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
I’ve always been drawn to the marketing field since I was a kid. I remember watching “What Women Want” with Mel Gibson and thinking “I’m going to do that someday”. I currently am a marketing manager at Dave & Busters and strive to reach their corporate marketing team so I can help create future national campaigns as well as enter into the entertainment industry and help with film campaigns.
Can you share the most interest in exciting happened to you since you started doing this?
One of my favorite marketing events I worked I helped with merchandising at the High Times Cannabis Cup in San Francisco for the High Times Magazine. I had spent the day with the owner of the entire company and she shared stories with me about when the brand started that most people probably will never hear. Also I got to meet the late George Jung and had got to talk to him about his past for while. It was just amazing to meet and converse with such influential people of our time and truly was a great day.
Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them thrive and not “burn out”?
Make lists and check them! Organizing your time will help ensure that you will get the job done. Also prioritize your lists so if you don’t finish them you get the most important things done. I use calender’s, alarm’s, and “to-do today” checklists. Also, plan your self some off time. I work hard all year and then reward myself with a week or two off to vacation somewhere new.
None of us can succeed without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story? *
My mom has always been there for me and has made me the strong individual that I am today. Without her my success would not have been possible. Career wise, I would say its every manager I have ever worked with whether they were a good manager or a bad manager I learn what I like and dislike about their traits and try to do better because of those interactions. Thanks to all of those people I am and continue to strive to be a better person.
How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?
As being a transgender male striving to climb the corporate ladder, I have been able to make those strides and act as an example of what my community can achieve and also create a safe space for all my employees which they love and appreciate. I have talked to numerous people within my community and appreciate and love that I am trying to break social barriers.
Do you have a favourite “written Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?
“He Who Is Brave Is Free”. When I was feeling the most insecure about who I was, I wasn’t living life as who I truly was. That’s when I realized I had to begin my transition from female to male. When I started living the life I needed to live for me, I finally was living the happiness and freedom I yearned for so bad. It gave me the confidence to take on anything and I am so happy I did. I will never live in fear or doubt again and I am truly grateful to have learned this
