Interview @ Finley the Pomeranian (finleythepompom)

Interview @finleythepompom

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

Finley is a PTSD alert dog. He is my service dog. And I think he deserves recognition for the positive impact he and other assistance dogs have on their handlers.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

The shops and restaurants in my home town (poole) have been amazing with him. People don’t expect my assistance dog to be so small. They expect a labrador, not a pomeranian.

Finley and his girlfriend @effy_the_pom are trying to build a puppy family this year.

Finley and his girlfriend also had a sandbanks wedding on the 6th of March 2022.

Finley turns 1 on the 8th of April.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

Do something you love and are passionate about. Finley is passionate about looking after me, and I’m passionate about loving him, for changing my life.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

My friends and family have supported me and loved me through long term illness (PTSD and RSD), and though there is too many to mention, I will forever be grateful for my mum who has made sure I never give up on what I want from life and to do what makes me happy.

Having finley as my assistance dog has opened a world of opportunity for me.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

I would like to think so and would like to do more to bring goodness to the world in the future. I think we would be wasting our time here if we didn’t think we were worth something until we had a “purpose” or “something to show for it”. I’d like to just be happy and bring happiness to the people I love.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

My mum has always said when she is an old lady she would like to be like the lady from the poem “warning: when I’m an old lady I shall wear purple” which talks about how she’ll live life to the max and do what makes her happy and feel as though she’d lived over anything else. I’ve always thought, why wait until you’re an old lady? Live life to the full now.
