Interview with Hasan Saqer
Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
I would describe my beginning into the world of film as being snatched from a kiddie pool and thrown into the deep end, except I was somehow able to swim perfectly. What others would describe as a whirlwind of a journey, I would describe as incredible luck and then a lot of hard work following it. I actually performed in a theatrical show during my school days and the director was immediately smitten, and that’s when I knew things could look up.
Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?
Nothing will come easy. To grow in this tough, oversaturated industry, you have to start small and slowly make your way up. Work with what you have, put your all into it and the seeds you sow early into your career will bring you incredible harvest, so long as you give them the care and dedication they require.
None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?
Back in school, my friends and family would constantly encourage me to try new things because there was nothing to lose, only to gain. Thinking back, without their push and then of course, the director who believed I had a spark and lit that initial fire, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?
As a young boy in Bahrain who was simply too curious for his own good, I never thought life would bring me where I did and give me the opportunities it has. I only hope that as I continue to grow, I can encourage other children from Bahrain and over the world to follow their dreams. Being an inspiration to people and convincing them to always believe in themselves is a necessary addition into society, and if I can do that, I think I have done some good for the world.
Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?
“The path from dreams to success does exist. May you have the vision to find it, the courage to get on to it, and the perseverance to follow it.” -Kalpana Chawla
I am a firm believer in everything this quote imparts as I have seen it happen for myself. Had I not seen the fruits of my labor myself, I would not have thought as a young boy that I would accomplish what I have. Be humble, thankful, and most importantly, hopeful.
